Across every operator here, reviewers name the person before they name the place. Melanie, Adrian, Antonio, David, Roberto, Leslie, Pablo, Diego, Carola, Nahiomy, Jesús, José, Javier, Normari, Yamile and Javi all appear repeatedly, and the difference between a good morning and a flat one is described almost entirely in those terms.
Not the history — the shade. Reviewers describe guides timing water breaks, finding shade at every stop and setting the pace for the slowest walker. One traveller using a cane completed the El Morro walk on a day above 100°F because the guide said at the outset that they would all go at a pace that worked.
It comes up again and again: travellers who took a walk early found their way around unaided for the rest of the week, and travellers who left it late wrote about places they had wanted to go back to and ran out of time for.
One reviewer says exactly that — the adoquines were the detail they had not known about, and they went and read more once they were home. The streets do a great deal of the work here.
